Bus-Only Lanes for Wilshire… in 2011

(This morning at Wilshire and Westwood)

As any driver or commuter is aware, the slog that is rush-hour Wilshire Boulevard is increasingly unbearable, inhibiting development over fears of exacerbation. Even if (big if) Measure R passes, construction on a Wilshire subway won't begin for at least four years. So, when news broke in February that the feds had committed millions for bus-only lanes on the street, happiness reigned. But as Steve Hymon writes in the Los Angeles Times, political feet-dragging (here? never!) may have delayed action, meaning construction may not begin until late in 2009, with completion on the precise and faraway date of June 30, 2011. So anyone got any more ideas? Zip-line?
