There's always been whisperings that the boarded-up former Ramona Theater at 2139 W. Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park was for rent, or for sale, but now there's not only confirmation of its listing, there are open houses. This past Sunday, real estate agents were showing off the property.
Not surprisingly, the location on this stretch of Sunset (wine bar City Sip is across the street; hipster vegetarian Cafe Elf is next door) is being touted as the selling point for the theater, listed at $2.275 million. It can be used as a music place, juice bar, restaurant, and more, according to the listing. Not confirmed, but the web site Cinema Treasures says this theater opened in 1914 as the Garden Theatre.
