Isn't finding faults and inefficiencies with the LAUSD like shooting fish in a barrel? Nevertheless, the Daily News is in the midst of an investigative series of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the organization that is (among other things) putting up all those landscape new (and perhaps not-needed) schools all over the city. One of the News articles focuses on the LAUSD's downtown headquarters at 333 S. Beaudry Avenue, which was bought and renovated by the organization in 2001. "Pricey place for LAUSD personnel," reads the headline (in part) on the News piece. But superintendent David Brewer III says the building is anything but austere, and eventually, LAUSD workers in other offices will move into the Beaudry Ave. building. And when that happens: "It will be a symbol of success versus a symbol of bureaucracy. We'll consolidate all in one and save a fortune, and that's the ultimate in decentralization."
