At Smashbox: The Very First Show, Kevan Hall

Kevan Hall
's runway show kicked off what will be the last LA Fashion Week resulting from the Smashbox Studios and IMG partnership. There was the usual crash of people entering the main tent, with Rachel Griffiths and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa causing the biggest stirs.

Hall showed day to cocktail to red carpet, dresses and gowns but for a few dressy shorts and pants looks. He started with French-inspired daywear— lots of crisp black-and-white and luxe gingham—which transitioned to what we usually expect from the designer—flowy gowns, beaded bodices, front and back, organza, tulle and chiffon in a palette of neutrals to candy-hued pink, lime and seafoam. Though not particularly cohesive to the rest of the show, the black-and-white looks were standouts, along with a plunging jersey and taffeta cocktail dress, an also plunging jersey and gingham floor-length gown cinched with a wide leather textured belt, and a pink dress with black lace overlay wrapped and wrapped at the waist.
