Discontinued: Magenta Shuttered, Memenic Countdown to Closure—Both on West 3rd Street

And some more West 3rd Street retail casualties. Magenta, a multi-label women's boutique and off-shoot of a boutique by the same name in Koreatown has closed this week. A shop manager on the street told Racked that it was all of a sudden empty on Monday. The boutique had apparently gone through a couple months of remodeling, which cost a fair amount of money. When it opened about a year ago, it caused a bit of a stir with nearby boutique owners because it was carrying not only the same labels, but the same styles of dresses and separates. Shop owners felt there was something amiss in terms of its buying practices because sales reps for said labels claimed they weren't aware of the overlap. And then there's an account on Yelp of some shady business as well. Hmm.

Further west, at Sweetzer, Memenic is likely closing in the next month. A shop person told Racked that they were working on trying to find someone to take over the lease. Regarding the closure: "We weren't trendy enough for these LA girls." In the meantime, it's trying to sell the rest of its merch at major discount, as well as its furnishings.
