Gen Art's Fresh Faces event, which happens tonight at the Petersen Automobile Museum on Wilshire, is usually the kick-off to LA Fashion Week, but this year the fashion/art/design org beat itself to the punch with 'Fashionably Natural,' showcasing sustainable labels Velvet Leaf, Brigid Catiis, Popomomo, and The Battalion.

LA Weekly
's Style Council was there to report on host Maggie Gyllenhaal's "carmelly voice," a trio of "very young, very thin, very pretty Vogue girls," and the clothes.

On Velvet Leaf's 'A Geometric Revolution' collection: The line included "lots of girly babydoll dresses in pale tones with large primary color circles on them. Some of the dresses, the ones in gold with big red circles on the front with little lapis lazuli accents, remind me of Egyptian scarab beetles."

On The Battalion: The collection "did a Spanish flamenco dancer thing, which concluded with this magnificent white flowing gown. It's made out of bamboo jersey."

On Popomomo's 'Searching For Aesthetic Utopias' collection: Models wore "socks with their high heels and trouser length nylons...pulled up to their calves, a nerdy effect...The girls look as if it’s the 1940’s, and they’ve just started getting dressed (or undressed) and are halfway through when they have to go answer the door..." Also in the line-up "a micro, micro, micro mini butt-cleavage revealing skirt called the 'Less Than Zero Skirt.'"

Nothing on Brigid Catiis, but check our profile here.
