Hollywood Life's 5th Annual Hollywood Style Awards

Hollywood Life’s 5th Annual Hollywood Style Awards were held at the Pacific Design Center on Sunday night where Tinsel Town’s most fashionable patted one another on the back for their style contributions to the Hollywood aesthetic scene. The red carpet was a show in itself, with celebs and stylists eager to discuss all things fashion.

Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant, in pink satin Valentino shoes, chatted about her costuming duties and stated her show was “about volume.” Rose McGowan, sporting a $28 Victoria Secret black turtleneck, broke the news about her new engagement, while Tila Tequila talked about her upcoming book and album release. And Sophia Bush, who would go on to accept the New Hollywood Style Icon Award, went on a short political rant about the presidential nominees.

Show host Lily Collins’ uppity demeanor was a painful contrast to an initially stale crowd, and the poor girl couldn’t keep up with her own disingenuous enthusiasm. She stumbled through poorly written introductions, and although she wholeheartedly attempted to improvise sincere words for the nominated fashion icons, homegirl sounded like she was giving backhanded compliments all night. After correcting herself for mispronouncing stylist Nicole Chavez's name, she followed up with “Some names you’ll just never know!”, much to the stunned amusement of the crowd. At least she looked the part of a young fashionista in her blush Chanel dress, even if she couldn’t sound like one.

But the show was not without its utterly endearing moments. Cancer survivor Tim Quinn choked up while accepting his Beauty Tsar award, having to take a second to breathe as he thanked his family and supporters. And the audience gave their only standing ovation for Bob Mackie (!) as he received his Fashion Costume Designer Icon award from Mitzi Gaynor. And we forgive the many honorees who left fashionably early and missed out on the after party. What with fashion week just kicking off, they have a busy seven days ahead of them.
