Noir lovers looking to explore the gritty streets of post-war Los Angeles have plans this May.

"L.A. Noire" will be released on May 17, according to Rockstar Games.

The long-delayed video game is set in 1947 Los Angeles and boasts a nearly "block-for-block recreation of the city right down to prices on diner menus." More than 180,000 period newspaper photos were studied to create the game environment.

Designed as a blending of cinema and gaming, "L.A. Noire" draws heavily from plot and aesthetic elements of '40s film noir with a background that takes gamers to a Los Angeles before freeways, offering a world of jazz, corruption, drugs and crime with a stylized look.

Aaron Staton (Ken Cosgrove of "Mad Men") voices the lead with plenty of moxie, and based on the new trailer released this week, there'll be plenty of tough talk to go around.
