The Buzz: Surround Gaming Goes Mainstream

New technology immerses you in the middle of your favorite PC game

You've heard of surround sound but surround gaming? It's the newest buzz in the gaming world and with the release of ATI's 5800 series of graphics cards, its about to hit the main stream PC market.

"Surround gaming" describes the use of multiple monitors to create a more immersive visual experience. By stacking monitors together in different configurations, you can create an experience that literally surrounds the player as much as 180 degrees putting you in the middle of the action.

ATI's new "Eyefinity" technology let's you combine up to six monitors using one graphics card. For those with richer pockets, you can add additional cards creating displays of up to 24 monitors that combine into one with staggering screen resolutions up to 7,680 by 3,200 pixels. That's a big gaming monitor.

Players get a commanding view of the action, improved peripheral vision, and enjoy more control in real-time strategy and shooter games. In addition, the increased desktop space gives more real estate to everyday applications like spreadsheets, editing programs, and browsers. Multiple windows can be on the screen at the same time.

The new graphics cards are available now with a start price of around $375.
