Some Retailers Stay Open for Thanksgiving

Want to get some shopping done on Thanksgiving Day?

If family time gets too much for you on Thanksgiving, fear not, because there are plenty of shopping opportunities out there.

For the 19th year, KMart will open its door on Thanksgiving. What started as media stunt has turned out to be a tradition for the discount giant.

Sears is following suit.

"Kmart has been open for 19 years on Thanksgiving and at Sears, our decision to stay open on Thanksgiving Day was based on our customers' response and desire to have an extra day to shop," Sears spokesman Chris Brathwaite told the Wall Street Journal.

A majority of Old Navy stores will also be open on Thanksgiving. This is the third year the retailer has opened its doors on Turkey Day, spokeswoman Margot Shaub told the Burlington Free Press.

"We did it last year and had such a great response from customers we decided to extend the hours," Shaub said.

Other local retailers with Thanksgiving hours include Big Lots and most Walmart Supercenters.

And only by a technicality, but Toys 'R Us will also be open Thursday. They swing open the toy door at 10 p.m.

The Citadel Outlets are also playing the early game, with doors opening on Thanksgiving starting at 10 p.m.

Macy's and JCPenny will have deals online starting Thursday.

Many retailers are opening bright and early on Friday morning, such as the Shops at Montebello (12 a.m.), Ontario Mills (12 a.m.), Kohl's (3 a.m.) and Target (4 a.m.).

For those shoppers who prefer to make purchases from the comfort of their home, there will be plenty of online deals during the Thanksgiving weekend. We've put together some tips for online shopping here.
