LA designer Trina Turk opened Trina Turk Residential next to her Palm Springs boutique earlier this year, followed with recent news of collabs with Hue hosiery and Clinique Cosmetics and Nordstrom to create makeup bags, but turns out that's just the beginning. WWD reports the label has gotten an infusion of investment from KarpReilly LLC, and has considerable expansion plans in the the works, including a 2,500-square-foot Kelly Wearstler-designed shop slated to open November 1 at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, and a 2,200-square-foot Barbara Bestor-designed store in Burlingame (15 miles south of San Francisco) slated to open in December. The long-term plan is to open two to four shops a year targeting "high-end malls and outdoor shopping centers," in spots such as Las Vegas, Miami, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Honolulu and Scottsdale.
In terms of Turk's offering, she'll be expanding to "outdoor upholstery fabrics that are resistant to fading, water and stains," appropriate for poolside in a collaboration with F. Schumacher & Co., wholesaling her men's line under a subbrand Mr. Turk, and looking to produce sunglasses, bags and other beachy items under license as the label does with swimwear. Oh, and she's also signed a showroom in the UK to begin selling her label there. Nice change of pace to hear of local retail/designers faring well in this economic climate.
