Victoria's Secret Looks a Bit Like Urban Outfitters

Clothing from Victoria's Secret used to consist mainly of backless shirts, side-less shirts, and, for really special occasions, front-less shirts—stuff one might wear to, say, become Hugh Hefner's fourth girlfriend, but not really appropriate for the rest of us. So when FabSugar pointed out a Victoria's Secret top that looked just like a drapey tank from T Alexander Wang, we figured it was a coincidence. Then we got the "Spring Casual 2009" catalog and realized someone over there has started paying attention to fashion.

More than anything, the catalog looks like it could have come from Urban Outfitters, although UO would never have allowed their models to look so tan and non-miserable. There's a wealth of on-trend tops and sundresses, and in a couple places we noticed a distinct Wangian influence. (There are even baggy cut-offs a la Wang's infamous denim shorts from last summer.) Also, because it's Victoria's Secret, everything has a built-in bra, which is a nice amenity when it's 95 degrees out. Does the world really need another store selling $30 hipster tank tops? Probably not. Is it a smart move for VS to go younger and trendier? Most likely.
