Father's Day Weekend: Several of Dad-nice happenings dot the map, including the Ventura's Roadshow Revival on Saturday, June 14 (it's an alt-flavored tribute to Johnny Cash, plus car show). Playboy Jazz rings out at the Hollywood Bowl and luxury cars'll line Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills on Sunday, June 15. It's the Concours d'Elegance and it is free, free, free to see. Also free and very much a perennial Pop Day favorite? The Pasadena Chalk Festival, which spreads out at Paseo Colorado on June 14 and 15. And Firestone Walker is holding a brew-ful brunch in Santa Monica on Saturday, June 14 (the "whole family" is welcome).
Chinatown Summer Nights: So you know those lovely warm evenings where Chinatown's Historic Plaza fills with craft sellers and food trucks and performers and artists and video projections and KCRW DJs? And the neon is lit and the air is perfect and you feel glad, through and through? Those are back. There are three in all, they happen on the second Saturday of each summer month -- June through August -- and one is up on June 14. Martial arts, too! Craft brews!
LA Design Festival: It's only the first weekend of the sprawling (literally), huge (in reality), multi-themed (truly) event that takes up pretty much the second half of June and pretty much a good chunk of Southern California. Studio visits, demos, architect nights, cocktail evenings, dim sum enjoyment, home tours, and, and, and... And lots fill the schedule. If you live/breathe design, your fortnight is now. June 13 through 29

Santa Monica Festival: Spending a late spring Saturday in Clover Park? And not paying a lick of admission? You're probably at this long-running, activity-brimful, eco-hearted festival that's full of dance performances, art stations perfect for kids, and a Family Bike Hub. SaMo has several solid community events, but this is truly in the pantheon of local favorites. Saturday, June 14
What to do, where to go and what to see
Make Music Downey: Over 60 bands and artists'll rock out (and fusion out and jazz out and you-name-it out) at this free, afternoon-long Fete de la Musique to-do. Chico multi-instrumental group Las Cafeteras are on board, college radio favorite The Bends, and the Long Beach Ukulele Club. Tour de Downey, the city's first annual bike meet-up, rolls that day, too. Saturday, June 14.
