Los Angeles

Weekend: WonderCon

New to LA: The mega pop culture convention opens downtown.

WonderCon: Don't call it Comic-Con International, but do call it part of the Comic-Con family, and a major part at that. It's a gargantuan-scale celebration of all things pop culture in its own right, with artists, actors, writers, and a whole bevy of costumed fans in attendance. If you're thinking that WonderCon used to be in Anaheim, and before that, San Francisco, you're correct; 2016 marks the mega con's Los Angeles debut. Have your cape, your crown, or just your con-ready enthusiasm handy? Head downtown from March 25 through 27.

Celebrate Easter: So much sweetness will be hopping across the land, from the real bunny cameos at Kidspace Pasadena (you'll need to register for the egg hunt, do note) to Big Bunny's Spring Fling at the Los Angeles Zoo (oh boy, there's a Pet a Fuzzy Bunny patch) to the Easter Bunny and train rides at Irvine Park Railroad (it's open on Saturday, but not Sunday, hop hop). Like your egg hunts with a historic twist? Los Encinos State Historic Park is holding one, with a bird walk held before the egg-finding fun. That's on Saturday, March 26.

Cat Art Show LA: The Sequel: You know that the beastie on your lap might lead a delightful double life full of adventure and high jinks, but seeing that whimsical cat energy played out in fabulous artworks isn't an everyday thing. Best get to Think Tank Gallery through March 27 for a furry dose of all sorts of cat-based kookiness, from a bevy of fine artists. Cats in clothes, cats riding sharks, and kittens living large via these artists' imagination. Can we get a meow?

Bubblefest Opens: Soapy shenanigans once again rule the Discovery Cube Orange County during this always super-popular springtime fling. A Mega Bubblefest Laser Show and a Bubble Zone combine to keep visitors learning about the science behind why bubbles float (and keep their shape). Oh, and keep visitors in entertained, too, because watching massive bubbles form, and twist, and fly, is still kind of magical. (But it is science.) March 26 through April 10

The Flower Fields at Peak: It can be tricky to try and guess when all of the ranuculus buds at this Carlsbad destination will do their big, bold color thing, but hoping that the show arrives around a major holiday is something flower fans hold in their hearts. Turns out their wish may come true this year, as the fields were at "90% peak" on March 21. It's "the best Easter flowering" the people behind the attraction have ever seen. Need eye-popping photos? Here they are.
