A 52-year-old Cerritos man was killed Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle crash on the southbound 605 Freeway in Norwalk.
Three lanes of the freeway were closed for the crash investigation, which began after a crash on the freeway just after 3 a.m. A preliminary investigation determined the driver of a Kia crashed into the rear of a Toyota that was stopped behind a big rig that had stopped for traffic in the area. That impact pushed the Toyota under the semi, according to the California Highway Patrol.
"It appears that the Kia driver may not have been wearing his seatbelt and as a result he sustained fatal injuries," CHP Sgt. Raquel Stage said.
The driver of the Toyota complained of neck pain and was taken to a hospital, she said. The big rig driver was not hurt.
The carpool and Nos. 1 and 2 lanes are open, but the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 lanes and the westbound Alondra Boulevard on-ramp to the southbound San Gabriel River Freeway were blocked for an unknown duration, the CHP said.
