Two Killed in Crash on 60 Freeway

Authorities said a big rig jack-knifed and crashed through a center divider

Two women were killed in a collision between their  vehicle and a big rig on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Industry.

The big rig was traveling eastbound on the Pomona (60) Freeway, from the  southbound San Gabriel (605) Freeway when at about 1:40 a.m., it jackknifed  through the center divider into an oncoming silver Nissan Altima, trapping two  people and setting the car on fire, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick  Kimball said.

Drivers at the scene left their vehicles and unsuccessfully tried to  pull the women out of the Altima, Kimball said. The victims were pronounced  dead at the scene.

The truck driver was transported to a local hospital, Kimball said.

All freeway lanes were closed west of Peck Street as investigators  examined the crash and road crews cleared debris, Kimball said.
