Downtown Streets to Close During Lakers Parade

A host of streets will be closed Wednesday to accommodate the massive crowds expected to descend on downtown Los Angeles for a parade and rally celebrating the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA championship.

The celebration is expected to begin around 11 a.m. at Staples Center, with Laker players and coaches being carried aboard double-decker buses in a two-mile procession to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where a one-hour rally will be held.

Many streets will be affected in a large area generally bounded by Martin Luther King Boulevard, Jefferson Boulevard, Hoover Street, Union Avenue, Ninth Street and Broadway, according to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

This is a tentative listing of streets that will be completely closed beginning as early as 8 a.m., with some closures lasting until 4 p.m.:

-- Figueroa from Olympic Boulevard to Martin Luther King Boulevard;

-- Chick Hearn Court (11th Street) between Cherry and Flower streets;

-- 12th Street between Figueroa and Flower Street
