The first major storms of winter moved into Southern California Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. The storms, which continued into Tuesday, brought heavy rainfall to areas that burned in the December wildfires, causing debris flows and flooding.
Mudslides damaged homes and blocked roads across Southern California, and eight storm-related fatalities were confirmed by Tuesday afternoon. The worst conditions were reported in the Santa Barbara County community of Montecito.
