Storms Prompt Flash Flood Warning, Watch

A flash flood watch was in effect through 11 p.m. Friday for deserts and mountains in Southern California

Thunderstorms and rain prompted flash flood watches and warnings Friday as unstable, monsoonal moisture hangs over Southern California.

 A flash flood watch applies to the San Gabriel Mountains in L.A. and Ventura counties through 11 p.m. Friday.

Weather forecasters said any downpours triggering flooding could affect Highway 33 and Lockwood Valley Road in the mountains and Highways 14 and 138 in the Antelope Valley.

For about two hours Friday, flash flood warnings were in effect for South Central San Bernardino County.

Residents in the hot and sticky Inland Empire, meanwhile, reacted to the weather.

"I'm not enjoying this at all," said Melody Herron, an Inland Empire resident.

"I'm dying," said Christina Murad. "I'm ready to go home and go back into the air conditioning."

Southern California residents could see a bit more of rain briefly on Saturday morning, but will see a tapering off as the deep tropical moisture system moves out and drier, less humid weather moves in.

Temperatures on Friday were expected to be in the low 90s in San Bernardino and Lake Elsinore and could hit the mid 80s in some of the warmest inland Orange County spots.

The coast could see temperatures hover in the 70s. Inland Ventura County areas could see temperatures in the 80s and 90s.

The longer-range forecast could see temperatures jump again over 100 degrees in the low desert areas through the weekend and through Thursday.

Temperatures could rise to the low-to-mid 90s in the high deserts next week.

The mountain areas could see temperatures hover in the low-to-mid 70s through Thursday.

The Inland Empire could see temperatures in the low 90s through Thursday.

The valleys could see temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s through Thursday. The metro and inland Orange County areas could see temperatures in the low 80s to high 70s through Thursday, while the coast could see temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s.
