Triple-Digit Temperatures Hit Inland Empire

Residents should seek out air-conditioned buildings and wear loose and lightweight clothing, according to the San Bernardino County of Public Health. Cooling centers are also an option.

Temperatures in the Inland Empire soared into the triple digits Monday, and the forecast calls for the heat to remain throughout the week, with a high of 109 by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

"People should limit their activities outdoors and try to get out in the early mornings," said Danyte Mockus, epidemiologist for Riverside County Department of Public Health.

Staying away from alcohol and beverages high in caffeine can also help mitigate the effects of the heat, Mockus said

Residents should seek out air-conditioned buildings and wear loose and lightweight clothing, according to the San Bernardino County of Public Health. Cooling centers are available for those without access to air conditioning.

"If they are unable to access an air-conditioned building, they should call the 211 resource line for cooling centers in their area," said Maxwell Ohikhuare, health officer for San Bernardino County Public Health.

The 211 information line offers cooling centers by zip code and Southern California Edison also offers information for its cooling centers on its website
