List: Here Are the Areas That May Face Power Cuts to Prevent Wildfires

    Utility companies were considering shutting off power to more than 100,000 customers in the Southern California region during dry, hot weather in an attempt to prevent fires Oct. 8, 2019.

    With windy, dry weather in the forecast, California utilities are considering shutting off power to more than 700,000 customers across the state to try to prevent wildfires ignited by electrical equipment.

    Southern California Edison's website showed Tuesday that more than 106,000 customers in parts of eight counties could face power cuts.

    That's in addition to the more than 600,000 customers that Pacific Gas & Electric announced a day earlier could be affected in the Bay Area.

    The largest numbers of potentially affected SoCal Edison customers are in Los Angeles County and to the east in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

    Also under consideration are areas to the west in Ventura County and to the north in Kern, Tulare, Inyo and Mono counties.

    On Monday, Pacific Gas & Electric announced possible blackouts in 30 northern and central counties starting Wednesday.

    Here is a list of the areas that may be affected:

    Los Angeles County (approximately 30,773 customers)

    Lancaster

    Palmdale

    San Fernando

    Santa Clarita

    Unincorporated areas including Acton, Agua Dulce, Boiling Point, White Heather, Canyon Country, Newhall, Leona Valley, Letteau Canyon, Lake Hughes, Green Valley, Elizabeth Lake, Sylmar, Portal Ridge, Canyon Country and near Antelope Valley

    Riverside County (approximately 19,434 customers)

    Banning

    Hemet

    San Jacinto

    Menifee

    Corona

    Unincorporated Riverside County including the communities of Whitewater and Bonnie Bell, Banning Pass, Cabazon, Owl, portions of Desert Hills Outlet Mall, North Palm Springs, Beaumonth, Banning, Gilman Hot Springs, Lakeview and Mons

    San Bernardino County (approximately 27,630 customers)

    Big Bear

    Calimesa

    Fontana

    Rancho Cucamonga

    Rialto

    San Bernardino

    Yucaipa

    Unincorporated San Bernardino County, including the communities of Doble and Upper Holcomb Valley, Cajon Pass, Devore, Etiwanda, Lucerne Valley, Lytle Creek, Running Springs, Cedar Pines Park, Valley of Enchantment, Crestline and Valley View Park

    Ventura County (approximately 1,589 customers)

    Fillmore and unincorporated areas
