Cool Enough For Ya?

Nobody says 98 degrees isn’t hot, especially in the sun-baked Inland Empire.

But it’s considerably cooler than the record high of 109 degrees for this date in San Bernardino. And that is the sort of solace Southern Californians have to look forward to this week.

It’s not going to be as hot as it has been, but the weather will still be mighty warm for a few days.

In Woodland Hills on Sunday, the temperature hit 95 degrees by about 2 p.m., on its way to a high of about 96 degrees. That precisely the average for the area on this date, and way below the record high, which hit 109 degrees on Aug. 19, 1992.

Ironically, perhaps, one place that continued to experience higher than normal temperatures on Sunday was the supposedly cooler coast. Santa Monica topped out at 80 degrees, higher than the average of 70 degrees for this date and almost touching the record high, set at 82 degrees in 1957.

NBC4’s Carl Bell predicts that temperatures throughout the region will continue to cool moderately throughout the week. Santa Monica will hit a chilly high of 68 degrees by Friday, and inland areas around San Bernardino will top out at 92 degrees.

There were no severe weather alerts for the region as of Sunday afternoon.
