Cooling Trend Continues, Sorta

Temperatures throughout the region are starting to cool down, but it's still hotter than normal in many areas.

Relief from the second major heat wave of the summer continued on Monday, with highs predicted in the 70s near the beaches and the 90s inland.

Temperatures in the San Fernando Valley are expected to peak at 95 degrees in Woodland Hills, and at 79 degrees in Santa Monica.

Despite the cooling trend, it will still be hot in many areas. In the high desert around Palmdale, temperatures are expected to hit 101 degrees, cooling down to 73 degrees at night. That’s higher than the average for this time of year, but lower than at the peak of the heat wave.

The return of the marine layer - and fog - to the coastal areas will begin to cool the rest of the region as the week progresses.

There is also a chance of thunderstorms in some inland and mountain areas.

Despite the cooling trend, evenings have remained relatively warm, potentially putting stress on the region’s energy grid and prompting calls for conservation.
