More Rain, Though Less Intense, on Sunday

An atmospheric river over the Pacific is fueling this weekend's rainstorm

Rain was back Sunday, but it was in the form of scattered showers.

South-facing slopes in the foothills and mountains saw steady rainfall throughout much of the day, with some occasional heavier showers.

The activity will linger through the overnight into Monday morning. On Monday, another front will push through the area, briefly increasing the shower activity and intensity.

Wednesday morning may see some areas with clear sky, and that will lead to some cold morning temperatures. Inland cities may start off in the upper 30s, with the coast and basin running in the low-to-mid 40s with some early low clouds and fog. We should stray dry through the rest of the week with temperatures remaining below average for this time of year.

The rain will become more scattered by Tuesday, with the system moving out of the area by Wednesday morning.

The current storm -- the second of three over just a few days -- is coming from the Gulf of Alaska. It's tapping into a band of moisture known as an atmospheric river stretching from Hawaii to California as a low pressure system parks itself over California.

The heavy downpours Saturday prompted evacuations and road closures throughout the region.
