Near record-breaking temperatures pushed throngs of Angelenos to the coast on the Monday as warmer temperatures returned the region bracing for a three-day heat wave.
"It was nice and cool; not too cold but you know just enough to make you cool off your feet," said Cindy Schroeder, of Torrance.
Nicki Howitt, of Gardena, said her grandchildren -- in their sundresses and shorts -- feel stuck one season behind, two weeks before Halloween.
"That's why we're here; they bugged for it all day," she said.

In the metro area, higher-than-average temperatures are expected to continue through Thursday, with a peak high of 93 degrees on Wednesday.
"…high pressure over the eastern Pacific will be moving back in over the Great Basin overnight tonight into tomorrow, and that's going to allow for not only the heat, but also some strong winds to develop late Wednesday night into Thursday," said NBC4 meteorologist Elita Loresca.
Late Wednesday into Thursday, valley residents can expect wind ranging between 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Mountain regions are expecting 15 to 25 mph wind, with gusts up to 35 mph.
Those gusty winds combined with low humidity could create an elevated fire danger, said NBC4 forecaster Fritz Coleman.

Residents in the low deserts can expect highs of 102 degrees on Wednesday, a repeat of Tuesday's peak temperature, and 99 degrees on Thursday and Friday.
