About 1,200 residential customers in southwest Pasadena lost power Sunday when an electrical flashover caused a nearly three-hour-long blackout, a fire official said.
The outage occurred about 10:45 a.m. and power was fully restored about 1:20 p.m., said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.
Derderian said one circuit failed about 10:45 a.m. affecting about 800 customers. A second circuit shorted out a few moments later, bringing the total to about 1,200.
She said officials at Pasadena Water and Power said the cause of the outage was an electrical flashover, which is defined as an electrical discharge over or around the surface of an insulator. Pasadena Water and Power officials could not be reached for comment.
Derderian said the blackout effected an area south of the Foothill 210 freeway and west of the Arroyo Seco.
"As a precaution, our fire units surveyed the effected area to see if there were any customer concerns,'' she said.
