Free: Festival of Arts Birthday Bash

Enter the famous festival and pay nothing to do so (also, look for the free activities, too).

SUMMER IN LAGUNA BEACH? You can bet some sand between the tootsies will be involved, and a bit of seafood, and a couple of fruit-laden drinks, and a languid stroll down Ocean Avenue, and some gallery pop-bys, but! A few of the majors do grab a few headlines around the area, with the Sawdust Art Festival and Pageant of the Masters serving as long-running, must-see seasonal treats. Another jewel in that crown? Why it's the BFF to the hold-a-pose Pageant, the painting-and-sculpture-and-everything-filled Festival of Arts. The works-packed festival has earned its "one of the majors" crown over the last 85 years, along with the respected acknowledgement that this is one of the biggies, and that's in Laguna Beach, in Orange County, and in all of California, too. And the eye-feast, mind-growing happening will soon pay tribute to its 85th birthday, but visitors are truly the people who get the gift. And that gift is...

FREE ADMISSION... to the art show on Sunday, Aug. 13. Also? If you want to participate in an art activity, that, too, will be fee-free for the day. Make time to check out the grounds — they were recently renovated — and take a moment to chat with an artist or two. Live entertainment is promised, and as are spots for great snapshots. If you want to attend the Pageant of the Masters, which is just steps away from Festival of Arts, that's cool, but keep in mind that remains ticketed. For all the info, including the final 2017 date for the festival — spoiler alert, it's Thursday, Aug. 31 — start here.
