Hotel Irvine: Movies in the Backyard

Pay $5 and savor cinema on the property's grand lawn.

WHEN YOU'RE INSIDE A THEATER, snuggled down into a seat, with a bucket of popcorn in your lap (or a big box of gummies or a big drink of something raspberry), you can usually say, with certainty, that you're among the stars. Of course, those stars are up on the screen, and not overhead, as theaters typically, no spoiler alert required, come with a roof of some sort. But an outdoor film-watching experience delivers stars both on screen, and over the viewers' heads, making it a unique, and highly summer-specific experience. You can find such fun-fun goings-on around Southern California at some parks and beaches, but, very occasionally, a swanky hotel gets in on the screen scene. Hotel Irvine will once again host its Movies in the Backyard, over a trio of (doubly) starry summer nights. Night one? Suit up for space and watch "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" on Friday, June 9. And to round out the month of June? It's...

"LA LA LAND," that ultimately sunshiny SoCal fairy tale, on Friday, June 30. Finishing off the alfresco series is "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" on Friday, Aug. 11. Everything happens on the hotel's lawn, and a ticket? It's five bucks, which includes parking at the Hotel Irvine. Blankets, low chairs, and such? All welcome. Bringing some cash for Chef's backyard barbecue, which will include "burgers, sandwiches, fresh salads, and staple movie snacks like ice cream, nachos, popcorn, and candies"? Definitely recommended, if movie munching is your gotta-do-it go-to. Are you ready to be with the stars (on screen) and the stars (above, in the sky)? It's happening, at Hotel Irvine, over three sweet summer of '17 Friday nights.
