M.G. Perez is a reporter for NBC 7 and Telemundo 20, bringing more than two decades of major-market broadcast journalism experience to the newsroom.

Over the past 24 years, M.G. has built a career defined by dynamic storytelling, strong community connections, and versatile newsroom leadership. His work has taken him to newsrooms in Austin, San Diego, Houston, San Francisco, and at WNBC-TV in New York City — one of the nation’s most competitive media markets.

Remarkably, M.G.’s broadcasting journey began at just 11 years old, when he served as a junior newscaster at KHTV in Houston. Station management featured young reporters delivering the news between cartoons and classic sitcoms — an early start that sparked a lifelong passion for journalism.

Beyond the anchor desk, M.G. is deeply committed to the industry and his community. He serves on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pacific Southwest Chapter as Communications Director, helping support and elevating excellence in broadcast journalism across the region.

M.G. holds a master’s degree in special education from Point Loma Nazarene University and a bachelor’s degree in theatre from University of Houston–Downtown. When he’s not reporting, he gives back to the next generation by working as a guest teacher for multiple school districts throughout San Diego County.
