World Chocolate Day Celebration at Shaws SF

It’s World Chocolate Day and California Live’s Malou Nubla is celebrating with turtles… chocolate turtles! Malou takes us to a San Francisco hot spot for sweets, Shaws, a family-owned ice cream and candy shop, for a lesson in making turtles. Learn how you can make these sweet treats at home! Find the recipe below. -SHAW’S CHOCOLATE TURTLES *Ingredients: 2 cups of Pecans, toasted (cut them in halves) 12 ounces of Chocolate Chips (milk or dark) 12 ounces of caramels, homemade or store-bought ½ cup Cream or half-and-half 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil Salt to taste *Directions: In a medium bowl, combine the unwrapped caramels with cream. Microwave for 20 second bursts of heat and stir in between until caramels are melted smoothly. Set aside and cool. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Arrange pecans into small tablespoons or clusters on tray. Pour 2 to 3 teaspoons of caramel over each one. Melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil with 20 second bursts of heat in microwave until smoothly melted. Pour 2 to 3 teaspoons of melted chocolate over each cluster. Sprinkle salt over each one. Let the candy set and you can even put them in the freezer for 15 minutes. **Pecans: You can choose to chop pecans or use them whole. Chocolate: Use milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips depending on what you prefer Caramel: Choose soft caramels that will melt smoothly Salt: optional
