Firefighters Battle Brush Fire in Thousand Oaks

A quick moving brush fire broke out in an in the hilly area behind a well-known workout gym off the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks Monday afternoon.

The fire was about 50-pecent contained Tuesday morning.

About 150 firefighters moving on the ground and four water dropping helicopters swarmed the fire that started at 2 p.m., Monday. The brunt of the flames were located directly behind Spectrum Club Thousand Oaks,  2400 Willow Lane, just north of the Hampshire Raod exit off the 101 Freeway.

The fire broke out  amid scorching 113 degree temperatures, low humidity, and light winds. Flames and heavy smoke were visible from the 101 freeway, slowing traffic.

No formal evacuations were ordered but workers from local businesses left the area. No homes were reported damaged and there were no reported injuries.
