The challenge invites nonprofit organizations to compete for funding in the 10 local markets served by NBC Owned Television Stations for a total of $1.2 million in grants nationwide.

NBC4 will implement the grant challenge in Southern California, inviting nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties that qualify to apply. After an extensive review process, one organization will be awarded $100,000, and two runner-up nonprofits will each receive $50,000.

“We are fortunate to be part of such a successful philanthropic initiative supporting local organizations that serve thousands of people who truly need it,” said Terri Hernandez Rosales, vice president of community affairs and communication for NBC4 Southern California. “We encourage every group out there with fresh, out-of-the-box programs to share their ideas with NBC4 so we can help strengthen our community together.”

The 21st Century Solutions program will support new, innovative programs in the following areas: Civic Engagement; Education; Environment; Jobs and Economic Empowerment; Media Arts and Technology.
