Police Convoy Caught Speeding at Over 100 MPH

After Aramazd Andressian Sr. was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his 5-year-old son, the boy’s mother lashed out at her former husband and at social workers involved in her bitter custody battle with the man. Ted Chen reports for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.

Nine police officers were suspended after eight of them were caught driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph following a K-9 competition.

Eight members of Florida's Lakeland Police Department K9 Unit were caught reaching speeds of 101 mph in a 70 mph zone as they were traveling in a caravan back from the competition, NBC affiliate WFLA reported. Another officer was caught doing 84 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The police department's cars are equipped with a camera system that begins recording when they reach 75 mph. Five of the officers admitted to filling up their camera system's SD cards to prevent recordings.

"Although each officer involved has taken full responsibility for their actions, they cannot take back the embarrassment placed upon this agency and their fellow colleagues," said Lakeland Chief of Police Larry Giddens.
