Teachers to End Hunger Strike

It's time for a new strategy.

A group of LAUSD teachers will end a hunger strike Thursday that started May 27. The fast started with nine teachers -- it's down to two.

Two teachers continued to camp in tents Thursday morning in front of LAUSD headquarters.

The teachers are protesting 2,100 layoffs planned for next year. Superintendent Ramon Cortines said the district must layoff teachers because of the economic downturn.

The protesters plan to adopt a new strategy geared toward recalling school board members.
