Three men were standing outside a home in Norwalk on Monday, July 4, 2016 when a driver opened fire while driving by. All three were struck, and one died. A man was killed and two people were injured in a shooting in Norwalk late Monday night, authorities said.
The shooting was reported around 11:28 p.m. near the 13000 block of Elmcroft Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
One man died at the scene. Two other victims were injured and transported to a hospital in unknown condition.
A preliminary investigation revealed a group of people were leaving a gathering at a home when a man approached them and opened fire.
A description of the shooter was not immediately available. Neighbors said they did not hear gunfire because of the sounds of fireworks on the Fourth of July.
A resident told NBC4 that the fatal shooting victim was her son's childhood friend. The man had just pulled up in a car outside a home when a gunman opened fire from another vehicle, the resident, who declined to be interviewed on camera, said.
