Police Detain Person of Interest in Arson Fire in Canoga Park

Several cars were targeted and torched and now a possible arsonist has been detained. Adrian Arambulo reports for the NBC4 News at 11 on Monday, May 15, 2017.

A person of interest was detained by police after cars explode in flames in Canoga Park, forcing family to flee an apartment Monday.

The loud popping of explosions was heard amid the smoke and flames in a cellphone video recorded of the fire in the 21700 block of Lanark Street.

A teen girl living in the apartment said she had to rush her young brothers out as soon as the fire ignited.

Over the weekend -- and less than 500 feet away from Monday's fire -- four vehicles were damaged after being set ablaze in undergound parking in the 8100 block of Owensmouth Avenue. It wasn't immediately clear if the blaze reported over the weekend was connected to Monday's fire.

Roughly two miles from there, two others reported their cars being set on fire over the weekend. Police had not confirmed if all the car fires were connected.
