Investigators were looking into the death of a 1-year-old boy who was found unresponsive in Hawthorne on Wednesday, authorities said.
Police were called around 5 p.m. to a home in the 11700 block of Doty Avenue regarding a baby's condition and found the boy unresponsive, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The baby was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said the baby's 15-year-old mother had returned home from school she found the baby unresponsive, and paramedics were called to the residence, according to the news release.
While the boy's biological mother was at school, he was cared for by the teen's adoptive mother, according to a news release.
Investigators said there were no visible signs of trauma to the baby.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of the baby's death. The investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.
