Two men and two women -- one of them pregnant -- were barricaded inside of a room at the Quality Inn for several hours.

Police said four people were in custody after an hourslong standoff overnight at a Bell Gardens hotel. Marin Austin reports live for Today in LA on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Four people were in custody Friday at the end a standoff with the Hawthorne Police SWAT team at a hotel in Bell Gardens, police said.

Two men and two women -- one of them pregnant -- were barricaded inside of a room at the Quality Inn for several hours, police said.

At least two of the people detained were wanted in connection with a string of armed robberies across Los Angeles County for the past month, and one more was wanted in connection with the shooting of a Hawthorne police officer on Thursday, detectives said.

The Hawthorne Police Department tracked down the suspects at the Quality Inn & Suites at 7330 Eastern Ave. Five hours into the standoff, at around 4:15 a.m., SWAT officers used tear gas to remove the suspects from the hotel.

Hotel guests were evacuated during the standoff.

Details on the assault on the officer were not immediately available but police said the officer is expected to recover.

The standoff began late Thursday night. No officers nor suspects were injured, police said.
