Stench Leads to Discovery of Body in Car Trunk

Police say a foul smell led to the discovery of a body in the trunk of a car in San Bernardino. Gadi Schwartz reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015.

A foul smell led to the discovery of a body in a car trunk in a San Bernardino neighborhood Wednesday, police said.

Residents reported the odor coming from a car parked in the 600 block of West Courtland Drive about 2:35 p.m., the San Bernardino Police Department said.

When officers arrived, they found the body in the trunk. The death was "definitely suspicious," police said.

No information on the victim or his killer was available.

Officers said the car did not appear to be abandoned. Some neighbors said the car had been parked there since the weekend.

"The flies that were all over the car, everything just seemed not right," said one neighbor. "It's kind of unreal to imagine that somebody could do that to somebody else."
