Brush Fire Burns Malibu Hillside

A brush fire sparked by a car accident burned burned several acres of brush adjacent to Kanan Dume Road in Malibu. Chris Cristi reports for NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on April 17, 2015.

Firefighters battled a three-alarm brush fire in Malibu that broke out Friday afternoon.

Kanan Road was closed southbound at Mulholland Drive and northbound at Pacific Coast Highway for several hours, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It was scheduled to be reopened at 8:30 p.m.

The fire was sparked by an incident involving a car. Embers from the fire sparked a second adjacent brush fire.

The first branch of the fire burned 2.9 acres. The second branch burned 1.5 acres. The fire was put out just before 6 p.m.

No evacuations were immediately ordered in the area, but access was restricted to residents.
