Release Approved for Child Molester Deprived of Due Process

Prosecutors have yet to reveal whether they will appeal a ruling that could lead to the release of a convicted sex offender who long ago finished serving his prison term, but has continued to be held in state mental hospitals–without the allegation of his being a sexually violent predator ever going to a jury to decide. The appellate ruling affirmed a finding that “systematic breakdown” in the office of the Los Angeles County Public Defender was a factor in 17 years passing without trial on the SVP allegation.
