A Riverside County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a suspect outside a county building in downtown Temecula Tuesday.

The shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Walt P. Abraham County Administrative Center at County Center Drive and Ynez Road, according to the sheriff's department.

A sheriff's spokesman said the deputy was unhurt during the confrontation, but did not disclose any further details.

The administrative complex is home to satellite offices for the county Assessor-Clerk-Recorder and the Department of Probation.

There is also a courthouse within the structure, where traffic and small claims cases are handled.
