Anaheim Apartment Fire Destroys Garages, Melts Cars

At least 10 garages caught fire and one dozen cars were damaged, fire officials said.

A blaze burned several garages and melted cars in an apartment complex in Anaheim Friday. Melissa Etezadi reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015.

Several cars and garages were destroyed and melted Friday night after a fire broke out in a detached garage across the street from a fire station in Anaheim.

The fire was reported just before 11:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Ball Road at the Casa Madrid Apartments, the Anaheim Fire Department said.

Flames as high at 25 feet soared in the air, burning at least 10 garages and damaging one dozen cars, fire officials said.

Several cars parked across from the garage were also partially melted by the radiant heat.

The fire engine across the street was on another call when the fire started, allowing the fire to expand.

Melissa Hocason's vehicle said she was shocked when she saw her vehicle damaged by the fire.

"I got up for work and opened the door to come out and saw there was a hand-written note from my next-door neighbor that said there was a huge fire and my car was damaged," said Hocason. "My whole car smells like sulfure inside."

The fire was knocked down within 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire was unknown. No injuries were reported.
