Homes are evacuated and nearby streets remained closed throughout Friday morning during a standoff involving the subject of a search warrant in Hawthorne.

Five people were detained after the six-hour standoff that began early Friday near 145th Street and Doty Avenue, just south of Rosecrans Avenue. Law enforcement personnel with the Hawthorne and Gardena police departments were serving a search warrant at the home in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon investigation.

The case involved a shooting in January for which search warrants were issued Friday, Hawthorne police said. The man wanted in connection with the investigation saw officers approach, shut the door of the home and refused to exit, police said.

Nearby homes were evacuated. No shots were fired during the standoff.
