Joint Replacements Cause Allergic Reactions

The number of patients getting knee and hip replacements is on the rise, and some of those patients are showing allergic reactions to their joint replacements. After Paula Spurlock had her hip replaced, she said, “Every single thing in me itched.” She later learned she was allergic to the nickel in the replacement. To avoid this problem, a simple blood test can now test a nickel allergy. Dr. Bruce Hensel reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on May 23, 2013.
