Detectives Shoot Suspect in Confrontation

Detectives in South LA shot and wounded a suspect. Mekahlo Medina reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.

A suspect was hit Monay when at least one of two detectives confronted with gunfire in a possible ambush returned fire.

Officer Julie Sohn, an LAPD spokeswoman, said the shooting occurred in the 600 block of 43rd Place at 2:30 p.m.

The detectives were not injured. The suspect was taken to a hospital.

Police said officers were working on a case when they ran into the person at the center of the investigation.

That's when an exchange of gunfire took place, police said.
