The LA You May Not Know: LA's Unique Architecture

Los Angeles’ growth in the early twentieth century coincided with the popularity of the automobile. An interesting off shoot of that was the number of buildings or structures that were designed to catch the eye of a passing motorist. Some businesses used the shape of their building to promote their product (think Randy’s Donuts). This became known as Programmatic architecture and Southern California had more than its fair share of it. But sometimes just a unique shape, like a gigantic derby hat was enough to attract a potential customer. Of course some building have unique designs because of the passions or whims of the architect. Whatever the reason, LA has a host of interesting looking structures, some you certainly know of, but a few you may haven’t discovered yet. Join our host Drew Schwendiman, as he takes us all over the Los Angeles area in search of LA’s Unique Architecture. Produced by Patrick Campbell.
