12/30: Jane Monheit

Supper club songs to wrap up the year.

JANE MONHEIT: She has been singing for a long time now, so it may be surprising that Ms. Monheit is still in her early 30s. But her torch-y tones and old-school takes on the standards go back, way back, back to a big-band-y era. If you were looking to end the year with a bit of dress-up glamour, head for the Catalina Jazz Club tonight.

NE-YO: The stylish, suit-and-fedora-favoring crooner returns to Club Nokia. Is it still "The Year of the Gentleman"? Every year should be. The singer-songwriter has also penned tunes for Whitney and Celine, so you'll hear a note of the power ballad within pieces like "Because of You." Ne-Yo takes the stage at 8:30PM.

REVEREND HORTON HEAT: If you're a convert to the raucous country-meets-punk scene, you'll get to House of Blues Anaheim tonight for some loud hot twang time. Latest album is called "Laughin' & Cryin'" and if that doesn't sum up just about everything, we don't know what can. They're playing New Year's Eve at HOB Anaheim, too.
