High-Speed Pursuit Suspect in Custody

Chase topped 100 mph

A man was taken into custody after leading police on a high-speed pursuit in excess of 120 mph along Interstate 5. The suspect tried to bail out of the car, but was caught by police. John Cadiz Klemack reports from North Hollywood for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on June 27, 2012.

A driver who led authorities on a high-speed pursuit along the southbound 5 Freeway was taken into custody following a brief foot chase in North Hollywood.

The pursuit began around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday when officers tried to stop the man on suspicion of speeding on the southbound 5 Freeway near Smokey Bear Road in Lebec.

He led the California Highway Patrol south on the 5 Freeway and eventually the southbound 170 Freeway.

The driver reportedly reached speeds above 100 mph as he wove in and out of freeway traffic.

He exited at Burbank Boulevard in the North Hollywood area, parked his vehicle and fled on foot. He was taken into custody minutes later, shortly before 3 p.m.
