A man was shot by Los Angeles police in a case that shut down a San Fernando Valley neighborhood. Robert Kovacik reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014.
A 70-year-old man was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting Friday afternoon in Tarzana.
Around 5 p.m. LAPD responded to a call that a man was walking around a property with a knife on the 5200 block of Mecca Avenue, a residential neighborhood south of Ventura Boulevard near Reseda Avenue.
When police arrived at the scene, the man appeared to also have a shotgun, in addition to the knife. The man allegedly was threatening to kill the woman and himself, police said. That’s when police shot the man.
"We do know that he was armed when the officers responded and they were forced to take action," an LAPD officer said. "Anytime there’s people in the neighborhood, it’s dangerous for everyone. And I’m glad no one else was hurt."
According to an NBC4 report, the man may have been involved in a domestic dispute with a woman. The cause of the dispute was not determined.
